Most of our normal holidays include a lot of indulgence, eating, shopping and sense gratification. Usually, we think that it would relax us and make our holidays enjoyable and relaxing. On the contrary, we are always stresses as we do have long list of planned activities and mostly we are found catching up with those. Its short lived. As soon as we are close to the end of holidays, we experience withdrawal symptoms and tiredness. Forget about any relaxation.

A Yoga retreat or Holidays on the other hand, provides you a relaxing environment to witness the journey within – by giving you a chance to establish the harmony within your body and mind. Through this, you get a wonderful ‘fuller’ feeling at the end of your holiday.

3 – Meeting people with similar holistic lifestyle & philosophy

You will get a chance to find and experience a more-or-less like minded similar group of people, all enthusiastic about exploring more about themselves, each other and about yoga philosophy. Being in such groups itself has an energizing effect that you would not find in other holiday settings. In the process, you make your true companions o may be friends…..

4 – Better, Unique and different surroundings

Yoga Retreats, in general, are arranged and organized in very different surroundings – closer to nature or at places where there is a lot of positive energy. This reason alone is worth exploring suitable yoga retreats.

Yoga Retreats & Holidays are an option worth considering when you plan your next holiday. After all, don’t we want something different from our vacation every time?

Is a Yoga Retreat for Everyone?

Is it really meant for you? It isn’t wise to go into a Yoga retreat without preparing yourself for the possible pitfalls. You wouldn’t want to put your time and resources into something that you would regret later on.

By checking the following conditions, you can determine whether a yoga holidays is really suitable for you or is it something that you shouldn’t be thinking of….
This list includes some of the possible drawbacks that can be a part of your experience.

1 –A rigid and non adjusting mindset

Yoga means to surrender to the nature and observe the life the way it comes. It will test you in many     ways. Whether it is about your food, accommodation, your style, country, culture or your own living standards. Comparisons will make your life worse. People with pre set notions about places, people, Yoga, teachers and surroundings must be prepared to overcome all that if they really want to learn and get the most out of their Yoga Holidays experience else you would be find grumbling and complaining all the time. The best you can learn out of Yoga Retreat experience is to learn to adjust in any kind of environment. Many people go to the retreats with picture perfect regarding everything.
Remember: : Least expectations, most contentment !!!

2 – Tendency to be competitive or testing your limit

If you have this tendency, it may better to learn and understand Yoga first before going for any Yoga Retreats or it may be better to avoid all together. It is very likely for such people to invite injuries with such competitive attitudes. People tend to become aggressively competitive in group settings and try to overdo and stretch beyond their normal capacities which can certainly rob you completely out of any relaxing experience as you find yourself ending up with sprains and muscle pulls. Obviously, it would be the last thing you would like to get out of your practice. Yoga is not a competitive sport. In fact, the best benefits of Yoga can be had by understanding “your” body and not torturing it. Yoga asanas are steady, comfortable with relaxation of effort.

While this is fairly well known, it is difficult to not fall into the trap of comparison given our societal upbringings.

3 – Lack of adequate physical condition or health

Yoga This one is fairly obvious. While there are many Yoga Retreats that do not put a lot of physical challenge and impose certain pre requisites in terms of physical fitness levels, nevertheless, basic fitness     levels are always a must. Do not go for a yoga retreat if you are suffering from physical weakness or illness.

4 – Religious Burdens & Theories

There have been controversies raised of yoga being a practice that is predominantly Hindu and deviates from the path of other religions. If you suffer from such doubts, a yoga holiday is definitely not for you. The last thing you want is to be mentally disturbed if you share such beliefs. Yoga is an universal science and it has nothing to do with any religion in specific. It’s beyond and boundaries, color, race, sex, or prejudices.

5 – Boredom Pangs

If you are a kind of an extroverted person then you might feel boredom at times. Yoga is about quietness and peace. It’s about stopping the useless mental chatter and meditate. A Yoga retreat is about going within, traveling inwards – a kind of meditation – at knowing yourself better and how your mind works in different situations. There may be times when you are just sitting alone and not doing anything but contemplating and observing.. If you treat such periods as a waste of time, you may like to re-consider your plans of going for a yoga holiday.

You must evaluate your decision about experiencing Yoga Holidays based on some of these points. Little introspection and research is required, if you are the first timer and never ever experienced Yoga in a Retreat kind of set up.
